Bullshit Rumor Of The Day – All 11 Doctors Will Be Back For The 50th

Word’s starting to float around that the wishes of fanboys and fangirls everywhere are about to come true: the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special will be a reunion of all 11 incarnations of the Doctor. Including the three played by now-dead actors and the one who swore he’d never come back. And where does this wonderful news come from? Why an unsourced article in a British tabloid, of course.

According to the Birmingham Mail, “Show boss Steven Moffat is close to completing a script which will see the current Doctor, Matt Smith, needing the assistance of ALL his police box predecessors.”

They go on to say, without the slightest at how they know, that the special “will use studio trickery to resurrect the first three Doctors – William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee – in brief flashback scenes.”

Later they explain, in a slightly fan fic-y manner, that “[t]here may … be a role for Alex Kingston, who plays the Doctor’s wife and who may be responsible for bringing all the previous incarnations together – against the Time Lord’s wishes.” Which, to be fair, would be a pretty cool way to use all the Doctors, even if it seems like it might have come from a messageboard and not a “studio insider”. (Note – The Birmingham Mail doesn’t even cite an anonymous insider. This information is simply presented as fact.)

It’s certainly possible that Moffatt’s got something this big planned. But with everyone expecting him to do exactly this, wouldn’t it be more his style to defy those expectations and give fans something they didn’t know they wanted?

And really, is there anyone that still takes British tabloids seriously?
