You’ll Never Guess Who Might Be Joining The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Phase II of the Kevin Feige’s master plan for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in already in motion, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier well into the casting stage and both Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World filming. Today, though, comes some news on how the MCU might be expanding in some very cool ways.

News that shouldn’t really shock anyone is that there are casting rumors floating around for Carol Danvers, the former Ms. Marvel/current Captain Marvel who has been having a hell of a renaissance, what with her saving everyone’s ass every week on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and her fantastic new comic. While, yes, the character’s Superman-esque power-set is quite a bit above what we’ve seen in the Marvel movies so far, the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy sets a cosmic precedent. And since Avengers 2 isn’t set to hit theatres until 2015, I wouldn’t bet against seeing Carol make a connective-cameo in Guardians.

So who’s in the running? Right now it seems to be Emily Blunt (who can, and should, currently be seen in Looper) and Ruth Wilson (of BBC’s Luthor and the upcoming Lone Ranger). My money’s on Blunt, as she seems more able to both embody the character and hold her own among the Avengers cast.

I just hope they call her Captain Marvel.

The really crazy news today comes from Fox’s Lauren Shuler Donner, who really blew away expectations with this bombshell: she’s willing to cross over Fox’s Marvel movies with Disney’s MCU.

It seems that the success of Avengers may have swayed the producer who reportedly quashed WW2-era cameos for both Wolverine and Magneto. Shuler Donner was asked about this in an interview with Crave Online.

Crave: Now that The Avengers has done so well, it seems like the other studios with Marvel properties can see the advantage of making a deal. Can you see a world where this generation of X-Men could be in an Avengers movie?

Lauren Shuler Donner: I would love it. I would love it. I personally have close ties to Marvel because of Kevin Feige, because Kevin worked for me. But to take our characters and mingle them in the way that they were written, yeah, absolutely.

Do you think they’ll bring back the Logan-as-WW2-soldier idea or come up with some other way to cross the franchises over?

Skott Stotland is a thousand monkeys in a people costume. They have been writing for the internet for over a decade.
