Have you heard about the new Matrix trilogy the Wachoskis are working on for Warner Bros? You know, the one that’s almost definitely bunk?
According to Latino Review, the pair has “already started the writing process” and has turned in both early treatments and outlines to the studio, which wants “to have the new Matrix films ready to up against any new Star Wars and Avatar films by 2017.”
Their proof for the claim that WB is ready to go back to a well that’s considered poisoned by all but the most hard-core apologists? That the Wachowskis and the Warners are both desperate for hits. And that they were “told” it, from whom they don’t say.
I’m all for keeping sources secret, but at least give people a reason to trust your information. And I’m not sure they’re as hard-up for a hit as you are, considering last year WB put out a Superman movie that made $.66B (with a sequel coming next year that adds Batman to mix, whose last franchise made about $2.5B total).
But at the end of the day, The Matrix was a lightning in a bottle film with two sequels that are almost universally considered to have made the original worse in retrospect. The franchise exists now only in punchline form.
Let’s be realistic here, this isn’t happening.
