Well this is certainly unexpected. NBC is working on a TV series based on the 1997 film The Devil’s Advocate, and technically the 1990 novel that was based on.
The movie, while being no masterpiece, has a ton of goodwill thanks to Al Pacino being full-blown crazy-as-fuck and Keanu Reeves’ brand of non-acting being perfect for a small-town lawyer in way over his head. Oh, and it had a great ending
They should be able to replicate the scenery chewing, but the ending presumably won’t carry over.
Deadline describes the show –
The legal drama with a supernatural twist, from Warner Bros. TV, has landed at NBC with what I hear is a put pilot commitment. Written by Matt Venne (Bag Of Bones, The Exorcism Of Molly Harley), the series centers on a public defender who joins a law firm that is run by the Devil himself.
If they bring the kind of bordering-on-campy crazy of the film to TV, this show will be a blast. If not, it’ll last half a season. Hannibal and Sleepy Hollow shouldn’t have worked but they did, this sure as hell* can too..
* – Oh, come on. It wasn’t that bad. You’ve said way worse.
