It’s a good time for fan theories and the fans who theorize.
Following the almost confirmation of the very popular Stan Lee Is Playing The Watcher theory in Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 comes news that another much-loved head-canon might also be canon-canon.
Speaking to Huffington Post, Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Tom Holland confirmed that Peter Parker has already appeared in the MCU, specifically in Iron Man 2.
If you’ll remember, in Iron Man 2, Tony Stark saves a small boy wearing a toy Iron Man mask from one of Justin Hammer’s drones. Stark then gives the kid credit for the kill. Fans have wondered for years if that kid might be Peter Parker. It makes a lot of sense. The Stark Expo is in Parker’s home turf of Queens. Being a science nerd, he’d absolutely beg to go check out the latest innovations. Being saved by a superhero as a child would certainly help push him to take that particular route when it came time to use his great powers responsibly. And regarding the timeline, the math does check out.
According to the actor –
It is Peter Parker. I can confirm that, that is Peter Parker. I can confirm that as of today, I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.
There had been some debate as to whether Feige confirmed this to Holland or if this is simply Holland’s beliefs about the character. But then Uproxx asked director Jon Watts and he confirmed it as well.
I was watching all these other movies and being like, ‘What if that little kid at the Stark Expo was Peter Parker? In the Iron Man mask.’ Like, he’d be about the right age for that. And he loves Tony Stark. ‘Oh, what about after the Avengers battle, who would clean that stuff up?’ Because they mention damage control at one point in the movie. So it’s this thing where, because it’s not completely figured out, that you can just go back and basically write fan fiction for those movies, then the fan fiction becomes reality.
This is just the latest in a long line of fan theories that proved true. At this rate, can Bisexual Captain America be too far behind?
