Everyone’s Back In School For FIRST CLASS 2

While Fox had announced forever ago that there would be a sequel to last year’s fantastic X-Men: First Class, the studio has been dragging its heels on making any kind of movement toward that goal. In fact it’s seemed that the only development on that front has been interview-fanfic from the actors about what Part 2 would be about. But now it looks like that wait is over, as Fox has finally made the deals to put X-Men: First Class 2 into development.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has signed the contracts with director Matthew Vaughn and cast of the film (including now-rising stars Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence) to return for the sequel. Producer Bryan Singer had already been signed, as well as new writer Simon Kinberg.

Kinberg is possibly what will sink the production, if anything does (and if they don’t get someone do heavily rewrite him, he will be what sinks it). None of the writers of the very well-written First Class are returning; in their place will be the writer of such classics as X-Men: The Last Stand, Jumper, xXx: State of the Union and the upcoming This Means War. So you’ve got that kind of intricate storytelling and scintillating dialog and to look forward to.
