For an actor looking to break away from his defining role, Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith isn’t exactly trying all that hard to actually do so.
It was announced today that Smith will be following Lost River (Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, set for an October release), with a major role in the upcoming Terminator sequel/soft reboot. Yes, he’s left one iconic time travel franchise for another.
According to Deadline, he’ll “play a new character with a strong connection to John Connor” whose role “will grow in the second and third films.”
Considering how generally fucked and paradox-choked the timeline in the Terminator universe is (and can only be expected to get worse as the next installment plans to get all Back to the Future 2 and loop around on itself), maybe having a guy who’s got some experience in these matters might not be such a bad thing.
