Despite it’s name, San Diego Comic Con is the place for studios to launch their new movies. Even though Disney sat the show out this year (partly due to not wanting to spoil Avengers 4 and partly because of their own D23 expo) there are still plenty of cool trailers to check out.
Aquaman
Jason Momoa’s bro-y Aquaman continues to be a high point of the DC Extended Universe Worlds of DC, though that is admittedly faint praise. This does look like fun, or at least more fun than DC movies tend to be. Fingers crossed it’ll actually be good.
Shazam!
Speaking of fun-looking DC movies. Shazam! is probably the movie whose trailer most impressed me this year and I can’t wait for it to hit theatres.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Probably my other favorite trailer of the con, I want this movie out now. Be sure to look for Easter eggs for The Thing and The Exorcist.
Glass
M. Night Shyamalan’s comeback tour continues. Split gave the tarnished director back a bit of the cred he lost over the years and it’s hoped that his upcoming shared sequel will be good enough to win back his detractors.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crime of Grindelwald
I want to be more excited about this than I am. I really, really do. But, seriously, fuck Johnny Depp.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly
I’m not really a big Dragon Ball fan, but I’m sure some of you are so, uh, here’s this thing.
Cut Throat City
RZA’s newest isn’t a kung fu movie, which is sad, but it’s a heist movie which could be pretty cool. I’m cautiously optimistic.
Sheborg
Just watch this trailer. Trust me.
BuyBust
A cool-looking action thriller from the Philippines that looks destined to be a cult hit, you’re going to want to say you saw it first.
